Hardware wallet manufacturer Ledger has swiftly regained control of its Discord server following a security breach caused by a compromised moderator account. The incident, though brief, sparked significant concern among community members regarding the safety of their cryptocurrency holdings.

The attacker exploited the compromised account to deploy a malicious bot, which posted scam links in one of the channels. Users were redirected to a fraudulent website and prompted to enter their recovery phrases—a critical security flaw that could grant hackers full access to their crypto wallets. Community members who attempted to warn others were systematically muted or banned by automated bots deployed by the attacker.

Ledger team member Quintin Boatwright confirmed the breach, emphasizing that the compromised account belonged to a contracted moderator. The swift response from Ledger’s security team prevented further escalation, but the event underscores the persistent threats facing crypto users.
